I think Poppy knows this answer but everybody feel free to comment. There is a particular guitar string number that works well for making blind splices in backing. Anybody know what it is?

I've always used around 40 lb. test single strand wire leader material.
Always had some around for rigging flies for barracuda and sharks.

5 or 6 bucks will get you a 30' coil.
Makes for some dandy bobbin threaders, too.

Every tackle shop in the Keys carried a selection.
I believe American Wire is the trade name.
