The Mach IV is a old model large arbor reel that is disc drag.  The Battenkill IV is a current model that is a standard arbor click/pawl reel.  However, a lot of Orvis reels have carried the same "Battenkill" over the years, so you might be referring to an older model.

Thank You for your input Gene. I sent a email to Orvis, and they sent me back a reply stateing that both the Battenkill V4 and the Mach V4 have been discontinued. But where ever I go on the internet they are advertising the Battenkill reel for as low as a $119.00. So I must admit that I am confused.

The Battenkill V4 is not the same as the $119 Battenkill IV.  The IV is the newest incarnation of Battenkill name and is Hardy Marquis Salmon 1 size reel with a click/pawl check.  It is a good serviceable reel and a value buy at the price.

Orvis Battenkills have been made by different companies over the years. Early ones were JW Young and maybe Hardy (?)(the Orvis CFO reels were Hardy-made for years), thru the late 80s and 90s BFR was making them (I have a few 10/11s from this generation...they are a solid reel and a nice fit on an 11ft switch rod). Not sure who is making the current generation, or where.
