I have probably answered my own questions but why not ask here. I have a rod that is about 2 inches short on the upper grip but it's  great rod. It is short for balance not casting. I loath a tip heavy rod. I would like a disc drag reel weighing around 11 ounces that can be bought for $300 or less. I have 2 click and pawl reels so for diversity I would like a disc drag.

The only reel that I can find is the new Redington Behemoth, The 9/10 comes in at 10.8 ounces. I looked at the the Danilesson H5D 11fourteen which can be had for $300, but believe it or not it's no heavier than a Bougle, which I have and is my base line for another wanting another ounce and a half. I know if it's a larger reel more backing will add weight. The new Lamson Arx is 10.5 and holds a lot of backing but it's a little beyond my budget. I looked at a Redington CDL on eBay but passed it up. Wasn't sure before bidding ended if that was what I wanted.

Anybody have any suggestions? Can be new or used.

Thank for any help, Leo.

Is that 11oz. empty weight? I will add if you found a reel @ 10.8 and you are shooting for 11 you are splitting hairs. Also one more thing, if you are going by published weight and not actual weight you may be disappointed cause things aren't always as they seem or as tackle manufacturers claim. Printed reel weight, rod weight, and backing capacity are seemingly sometimes a figment of someone's imagination.

PS, An Echo Ion 10/12 with the additional heavy drag knob on paper weighs 11.6 and will cost $115.94 shipped conus.

That was 11 ounces empty. I wasn't complaining about 10.8, I know that is spot on. Just wish there was more out there. Thanks for the specs on the Ion.

Take Poppy offer there is nothing else unless you want spend more dollars. You can make any reel heavier by wrapping some tungsten tape on arbor

I have an Abel Big Game #4 that weighs 13.85 oz with backing on it.  Would sell it to you for $250 if you would be interested.

Leo,

I have two Abel Big Game #4 reels and they fit the bill for my 8/9 rods and lines. An offer of $250 is a good deal for an Abel #4 in good condition. You can put 200 yards of 30# backing on a standard or small arbor #4 and add most lines. I have a Gaelforce 8/9 Equalizer 63' head on one of my #4's. Most of the Abel Big Game series reels had standard arbors, but I would suggest confirming this with the seller. The large arbor Abel #4 (Super 10) obviously does not have the volume for as much backing and I would not suggest it unless it was small arbor. Abel Big Game reels are bullet proof and have a buttery smooth drag.

My 11/12 Behemoth weighs 11.06 ounces empty, on my scale.  Curious that it's just a smidge heavier than the 9/10.

In any case, the Behemoth is a remarkable value in large capacity reels.  Mine holds a WF11F long belly and at least a hundred yards of 30 lb.  The drag, at less than maximum setting, is too strong for me to pull line off with one hand.

Thanks for all the replies. I sold some gear and bought a Cascapedia. Plenty heavy. Should have kept the first one I had.
